As your expected delivery date approaches, be sure you have packed or made a list of those things you plan to pack for your hospital stay. Each mother receives an admission packet that includes personal hygiene care items. If you’d like to bring a CD player or MP3 player, be sure it is battery-operated only.

  • A robe and slippers
  • Pajamas or nightgowns
  • Bra and panties
  • Shampoo and cosmetics, brush or comb
  • Books and magazines
  • Birth announcements
  • Telephone numbers of people you’ll want to call when baby arrives, including the number to call to add baby to your insurance plan
  • Contact lenses or glasses if you wear them
  • Camera and extra batteries (for photographing your own baby)
  • Identification card with photo (like driver’s license)
  • Health insurance card and/or policy information
  • Deductible or co-payment (contact your insurance company for details) payable by check, cash, credit card
  • If you would like to order your babies birth certificate while in the hospital please bring a check or money order payable to State Health department for $12.00. Talk to the birth registrar  for more details.
  • Advance directives

Please leave the following at home:

  • Electrical appliances
  • Jewelry and valuables
  • Excessive amounts of money

Don’t forget to pack items for the trip home too.

For yourself:

  • something loose-fitting, comfortable and appropriate for the season
  • low-heeled shoes

For your baby:

  • receiving blanket
  • “going home outfit” which is appropriate for the season
  • infant car seat.
