Retinal disease encompasses a wide variety of conditions, including:
- Retinal detachment
- Diabetic retinopathy: affects nearly 7.7 million Americans age 40 and older
- Epiretinal membrane
- Macular hole
- Macular degeneration: more than two million Americans 50 and older have late age related macular degeneration, the stage that can lead to severe vision impairment if not treated.
Because treatment for many of these conditions can be complex, and in some cases urgent, appropriate early diagnosis is critical. Injections, medications and laser therapies are available.
