  • Shortness of breath: It can become difficult to catch your breath, especially during physical activity.

  • Sore throat: Irritation in the throat may lead to a sore throat.
  • Fever (in acute cases): If a viral infection is the cause, you may experience a low-grade fever.

Treatment

The treatment depends on the type and severity of the condition. Here are some general approaches:

Acute Bronchitis:

  • Rest and hydration: Get plenty of rest and drink fluids to help your body fight off the infection.
  • Over-the-counter medications: Non-prescription cough syrups and pain relievers can alleviate symptoms.
  • Humidifier use: A humidifier can add moisture to the air, which may help relieve cough and congestion.
  • Avoid irritants: Stay away from tobacco smoke and other respiratory irritants.

Chronic Bronchitis:

  • Lifestyle changes: If smoking is the cause, quitting smoking is essential for managing chronic bronchitis. Avoiding other respiratory irritants is also crucial.
  • Medications: In some cases, medications like bronchodilators or inhaled steroids may be prescribed to help open the airways and reduce inflammation.
  • Pulmonary rehabilitation: This may include exercise programs and education to help improve lung function and overall quality of life.
  • Oxygen therapy: If blood oxygen levels are low, oxygen therapy may be necessary.

Preventing this respiratory condition involves taking steps to reduce your risk of developing the condition:

  • Quit smoking: If you smoke, quitting is the most important step to prevent the chronic condition.
  • Practice good hygiene: Regular handwashing can help prevent viral infections that may lead to the acute condition.
