Expert care for mental health and substance use disorders

We care. Whether you have a substance use disorder or another mental health issue, we will partner with you — or your loved one — to get the help you need.

A mental illness is a health condition that impacts your brain. It affects the way you think, your emotions, your behaviors and your mood. Your mental illness may be serious if you have significant trouble completing projects and interacting with people at work, school, home and social settings.

As the American Psychiatric Association says, mental illness is nothing to be ashamed of. It’s a medical problem, just like heart disease or diabetes. Nearly one in 24 people has a serious mental illness that severely interferes with their ability to function. Examples of serious mental illnesses are depressive disorder, schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. Certain factors, such as family history, brain chemistry or a traumatic event, can increase your risk of mental illness.

Substance use disorder is a complex mental condition that affects a person’s brain and behavior. People with substance use disorder cannot control their use of a particular substance, such as alcohol, drugs, medication or tobacco. Their intense focus on the substance interferes with their ability to function at home, work and school. Yet they continue to use the substance anyway. They experience intense cravings, personality changes and health problems. The disorder often impairs their judgment, memory and ability to make decisions.
Some people have a substance use disorder and other mental illnesses at the same time.
