About William Levin Newcomb, MD
After earning his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth University, Dr. Newcomb completed a general surgery residency at Palmetto Health Richland through the University of South Carolina. He completed fellowship training in minimally invasive surgery at Carolinas Medical Center. Board certified by the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Newcomb is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and has been published in multiple national medical journals.
With a desire to help patients in ways beyond medication management alone, Dr. Newcomb finds the concrete, positive impact of surgery on patients' lives to be highly rewarding. His medical philosophy is driven by commitments to current techniques and technology, complication preparedness, good judgment and the treatment of all patients as if they were family.
A high level of training and more than a decade of experience equips Dr. Newcomb to specialize in acute care and elective general surgery, complex hernia repair, minimally invasive surgery, breast surgery, gallbladder surgery and soft tissue procedures. His primary concern is to protect his patients’ safety while providing the best chance for a good outcome functionally and cosmetically.
Originally from Henrico County on the west side of Richmond, Dr. Newcomb enjoys backpacking, golf, and spending time with his wife Kimberly and their four children. Happy to raise two sons and two daughters on the Peninsula, the Newcombs are also thankful to have much of their extended family nearby. Dr. Newcomb considers Hampton Roads a beautiful place, but feels it is the people who make it special.
