About Suraj Rajan, MD

Dr. Rajan is a board-certified, fellowship-trained neurologist specializing in movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, essential tremors, dystonias, tics, Huntington disease, and Tourette syndrome. He is experienced in managing deep brain stimulation selection and programming, as well as Botox injections for neurological disorders and nerve blocks of the head and neck. After completing medical school in India, Dr. Rajan earned his Master of Science in clinical neurology and subsequent research fellowship from the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology in London. Following an internship with the University of Missouri he completed his neurology residency at Wright State University before pursuing subspecialty fellowship training in movement disorders at Johns Hopkins University. He currently also serves as an adjunct assistant professor in neurology with Johns Hopkins University. He is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Dr. Rajan enjoys the long-term relationships he forges with his patients as he helps them navigate their neurological disorders over time. His goals are to combine bedside diagnostic skills with advanced testing and therapeutics centered on each patient’s needs. He believes healthcare is a team effort, shaped by each patient’s needs. As new discoveries and novel treatments emerge, he believes it is exciting to see how diseases in his field are recast. Dr. Rajan likes to teach patients about their disease and conditions and encourages his patients to take notes.

Originally from the coastal town of Kerala, India, Dr. Rajan is glad to be back near the water and seafood. Away from work, he enjoys sketching, painting, hiking and spending time with his nephew and niece.

Dr. Rajan spent almost an hour discussing my recent diagnosis and was equally adept at informing me about the disease and listening to/answering my numerous questions. Showed great patience and I felt like it was the most positive and effective doctor visit I had experienced in many years.

He explained why he was ordering the bloodwork & the CT scan; also that since was going to be out of the country for the Christmas season, it would be awhile before I could get an appointment to get the results of both tests (bloodwork & CT scan). [...] At the end of my initial app't I gently chided him about not shaking my hand when he walked in the room and met me. He was open to my suggesting he remember to shake hands with a new patient especially, and that I considered it a necessary part of treating a new patient with respect and getting started off on the right foot so that a patient would have more confidence in him as their dr. He thanked me for this reminder, and as a result, I as his patient, look forward to meeting with hiim again. So hats off to him for not taking offense at a patient "teaching" her doctor.
