About Steven J Hospodar, MD

Dr. Steven Hospodar has specialty training in sports medicine, arthroscopic rotator cuff and labral repair and cartilage transplantation. He also specializes in arthroscopic ACL reconstruction and meniscus surgery, minimally invasive partial and total knee replacement, anterior total hip replacement, anatomic and reverse total shoulder replacement, endoscopic carpal tunnel release, ulnar nerve surgery, minor hand surgery, complex fracture care, as well as pediatric and general orthopedic care.  He intends to remain our caring community orthopedic specialist for decades to come

After earning his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia, Dr. Hospodar completed internships in general and orthopedic surgery, as well as an orthopedic surgery residency, all at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. A veteran of the United States Air Force, Dr. Hospodar's service included his position as Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana, as well as a deployment to Afghanistan during which he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. He is board certified in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine.

Motivated to directly impact his community in a positive way, Dr. Hospodar chose to practice orthopedics to provide higher quality of life, improved function and less pain for his patients, whom he considers friends and neighbors. Medicine is personal for Dr. Hospodar, who believes that the extent of each patient's condition and its effect on his or her life is completely unique. His goal is to understand patients well enough to provide not only what they need at that particular time, but also to remain a source of long-term advice or treatment as things change over time.

Originally from Fairfax, Virginia, Dr. Hospodar fell in love with the Tidewater area while attending medical school in Richmond. He and his wife consider it a dream come true for their family to be part of the middle peninsula community, filled with personal, friendly people who love the outdoors, the water and having fun. Dr. Hospodar's favorite hobbies include crabbing, fishing and boating, and he is actively involved with high school athletics, Boy Scouts and other volunteer efforts.

Dr. Hospodar sat down and talked with me about possible causes related to my injuries as well as solutions, both positive & negative. He wasn't condescending to me and actually listened & provided straightforward answers. I Never felt rushed or that he was in a hurry. There are few doctors that take the time to listen any more.
