About Sheila Margaret Fuller, FNP

Sheila earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing in 1991 from George Mason University and a Doctor of Nursing Practice in 2020 from Radford University. She is board-certified as a family nurse practitioner by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

Following 30 years of experience in acute care nursing, Sheila completed the highest level of training by attaining a doctorate degree in nursing practice. She transitioned to caring for patients on the front line of family practice, desiring to successfully impact patients’ health care across the lifespan. Sheila believes her role as a provider is to partner with her patients, inform them of their treatment options and engage them in shared decision-making discussions to arrive at the best choice.

Sheila’s areas of focus include health promotion, disease prevention, pediatrics, women’s health and the management of chronic diseases including asthma, dermatological conditions, hypertension and diabetes. Acknowledging the challenges that patients face in achieving optimal health and well-being, she employs a holistic, evidence-based approach to address psychological, physical, emotional and social health issues.

Originally from Northern Virginia, Sheila loves living near the Chesapeake Bay where she enjoys swimming, boating and kayaking. Her dry-land hobbies include cycling, gardening, travel and yoga. Sheila and her husband, Mark, have a blended family of four young adult children.

To be honest Sheila Fuller saw someone in acute distress in her office, decided tough love was the solution and instead of engaging in active listening, empathy and understanding decided to impose her pity [...]. She asks me if I snore. I tell her I wake up with a dry mouth so maybe? She puts in her notes snores loudly. That is not what I said. [...] She did not [...] even try to understand even a modicum of what I'm even suffering from. [...] Only ordered the labs after I fought tooth and nail to explain to her that the purpose was to rule out an issue.I won't call her a bad doctor. She complied with my request, she at least had some semblance of propriety to ask if I'd like treatment for my depression and anxiety and at least made moves for that.I think the worst thing a doctor can ever do is shut down a patients experience. Regardless of whether my issues were psychosomatic or not I have been living for years with less than 5 hours of sleep a night and am In a position where drinking water causes cramping. The last thing I want to hear from a doctor is that [...] I'm not doing good enough (from a stranger who doesn't even know me).Just found it super ironic coming from the same doctor who decided I needed psychiatric care because I broke down crying in frustration and helplessness at my situation. [...]

One of the worst pcp visits I've had in my entire life. I am now going to find a new provider outside of riverside or an actual MD/DO. Your NP need to be open to understanding the diagnosis of PCOS and the appropriate treatment for it. [...] This truly was a horrible visit I will actively tell friends and family to never ever see that NP. She [...] needs to be reading patients charts before walking into a visit. Just overall an extremely horrible visit
