About Samantha Ilia Smith, DO
Samantha I. Smith, D.O., is a board-certified primary care physician with a passion for holistic treatment and preventive care. Dr. Smith completed undergraduate school at Boston University and earned her master’s degree from Virginia’s Hampton University. She studied medicine at West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg, earning her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine before returning to Virginia for her internal medicine residency at Lewis Gale Montgomery Hospital in Blacksburg.
During graduate school, Dr. Smith gained experience treating patients as an emergency medical technician. She devoted herself to research during medical school and residency, delivering presentations ranging in topics from dermatology to cardiology. She remains active in several medical associations and societies.
Dr. Smith entered the field of primary care to treat a diverse range of patients, and for the opportunity to help them manage acute, chronic and complex illnesses. She believes in a kind, holistic and thorough approach to care, and in the importance of clear communication in the doctor-patient partnership. Her areas of interest include preventive medicine and sleep medicine.
Originally from the Bahamas, Dr. Smith spent much of her childhood in Newport News. She enjoys being back in the region and the endless opportunities to explore — from historic sites like Colonial Williamsburg to the many biking and hiking trails — as well as its proximity to the beach, mountains and Washington, D.C. She also enjoys cooking and engaging in a range of community activities, from hiking and charity runs to live music and trivia.
