About Racquel T. Fung, FNP

Board-certified family nurse practitioner Racquel T. Fung, FNP-C, earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing and a Master of Science in nursing, both from Old Dominion University. She is certified by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.

Racquel chose to become a nurse practitioner because the field offers the opportunity to help people achieve optimum health. Her healthcare philosophy focuses on considering the whole person — body, mind and spirit — while striving to understand their needs. With that focus, patients have the tools to make informed decisions, tend to be more involved in their care and achieve better clinical outcomes.

In urology, Racquel has managed both common and complex urological issues. She enjoys caring for patients with kidney stones, urinary incontinence, overactive bladder, hematuria (red blood cells in the urine) and recurring urinary tract infections. She knows that problems in the urinary tract can create sensitive health issues that impact a person’s quality of life immensely. Racquel has a special interest in men’s health and has focused on treating enlarged prostate, erectile dysfunction, prostatitis and prostate cancer. Her goal is to actively listen and provide honest answers while collaborating with each patient to produce a health plan that improves their quality of life.

Racquel is originally from Trinidad and Tobago. She is married and has two sons. She likes to garden, kayak and travel. She enjoys exploring Virginia and likes Hampton Roads’ temperate climate, scenic landscape and opportunities for outdoor recreation.

I am relieved to have had such a positive experience after what I've dealt with recently. My doctor communicated very well and addressed all of my concerns during and after my appointment

FNP Fung has always had a surly attitude towards me, even after I greeted her with respect as "Doctor" and asked her how she was doing in this visit. I don't know what her problem is with me, but it has been the most degrading insulting experience that I have ever had at any clinic or hospital. [...] she barked "GET OUT MY FACE" while I was standing in the hall and she in the exam room. Real Profesional? [...]

Appreciated her recognition of his past career and professional success as she worked through personal and somewhat embarrassing issues. I do wish that instead of asking my husband if he had experienced something, she asked me, his wife, because he has mild dementia and difficulty speaking. But it isn't hard to say to him " do you suffer from constipation?" and understand his "yes" or "no," and then look to me for confirmation. It hurts me, his wife, to see him left out of discussion of his body, his health. It happens everywhere and I always try to look at him and say, for instance, "Do you think you have a problem with constipation?"

I'm sure she was busy but she showed no concern for my symptoms. She first questioned my need to be there. My GP sent me. She went back in my chart to say I've only had 1 UTI in the last 2 months. I shared with her my family history and that I get UTIs very often. I stated that I am scheduled for a renal ultrasound. At that she said that I can't just sign up for tests. She then said all that test would show is a cyst on my kidney. That Is exactly how my mother's and my sister's kidney cancer was found. She ordered a cystoscope. At the end of the visit I asked if she thought I should have the ultrasound and she said yes. I went to Williamsburg so I could be seen by a woman. I thought a woman would be more caring about my symptoms. She was very curt and made me feel that I was wasting her time.

I watched the providers video online about how she approached Care and I found the in person visit to be quite different. She was not very personable. And I felt like I was being rushed.
