About Michael Ney, MD

Dr. Ney earned his medical degree in 2013 from the University of Alberta in Canada, remaining there to complete his internal medicine residency. He completed a gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Calgary, followed by an advanced fellowship in hepatology at the renowned King’s College Hospital in London. Dr. Ney is board-certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology by the Royal College of Physicians of Canada, equivalent to certifications issued by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

From a very young age Dr. Ney wanted to be a doctor, and early in medical school he aspired to treat gastrointestinal and liver disease. The opportunity to fulfill that goal and contribute to better health outcomes for his patients is a privilege that he does not take for granted. Dr. Ney’s medical philosophy is based on not only considering the disease, but the patient who has the disease.

Dr. Ney enjoys treating the broad range of conditions encompassing gastroenterology and hepatology, with a particular focus on patients with complex diseases of the liver. These include autoimmune hepatitis, primary biliary cholangitis, primary sclerosing cholangitis, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, hemochromatosis, alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, Wilson’s disease, alcohol-related liver disease and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. With numerous medical journal publications, Dr. Ney’s research interests have centered on liver cirrhosis and its complications, nutrition and exercise in liver disease, non-invasive markers of liver disease and frailty in liver disease.

Originally from Calgary, Canada, Dr. Ney is fond of our area’s weather, nature, water and friendly people. He enjoys spending leisurely time with his wife and pets, in addition to water sports, recreational league sports, hiking, traveling and reading.
