About Julia Michelle White, MD
Board-certified ophthalmologist Dr. Julia "Michelle" White joined Hampton Roads Eye Associates Hampton following glaucoma fellowship training at the University of Alabama-Birmingham Callahan Eye Hospital. She completed her ophthalmology residency at Virginia Commonwealth University after earning her medical degree from Georgetown School of Medicine in Washington, D.C.
Dr. White specializes in glaucoma management and procedures, offering a wide range of treatments from traditional surgeries to laser treatments and microinvasive glaucoma surgeries (MIGS). She also practices comprehensive ophthalmology, with services including cataract evaluations and surgery, diabetic eye exams, eyeglass refraction and treatment of macular degeneration.
Drawn initially to ophthalmology for the opportunity to make a tangible difference in people's quality of life, Dr. White chose to specialize in glaucoma because of the chance to form close, long-term relationships with her patients. She also wanted to help meet the need for more specialists in the field.
As a proud Georgetown alumna, she continues to heed the medical school's motto, cura personalis, which means "care of the whole person," in her practice. She has a particular interest in working with diverse patient populations, is fluent in Spanish and has twice visited Ecuador to study — once for ophthalmology clinical rotations and the other as an undergraduate.
Dr. White is originally from Oklahoma and moved to the D.C. area to attend college (and, later, medical school and training). She is married and enjoys making pottery, hiking and swimming in her leisure time.
