About Joseph Morris III, DO

Board-certified and fellowship-trained nephrologist Joseph Morris III, D.O., earned a Bachelor of Science in human biology, a Doctor of Chiropractic from the National College of Chiropractic in Illinois, and a Doctor of Osteopathy from the Pikeville College School of Osteopathic Medicine in Kentucky. Following a transitional intern year with Riverside Regional Medical Center, he completed his internal medicine residency at St. John West Shore Hospital in Westlake, Ohio, where he was chief resident. He then completed a fellowship in nephrology at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, New York. He is a fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Internists and is certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Morris chose his specialty because he appreciates working with complex patients and providing dialysis care. His areas of special interest include diabetic kidney disease, hypertension, peritoneal dialysis, kidney stone management, electrolyte disorders and acute and chronic kidney failure. Before returning to Virginia, he spent 14 years caring for nephrology patients in West Burlington, Iowa.  He has held numerous leadership roles, including assistant chief of staff at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa, as medical director of Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center inpatient dialysis program and as medical director of Southeastern Renal Dialysis centers in Fairfield, Fort Madison and West Burlington, Iowa.

At Riverside, Dr. Morris provides compassionate, empathetic care. With a passion for life-long learning, he works to ensure that his patients understand their conditions and treatment options.

Originally from coastal Massachusetts, he is a lifelong Red Sox fan and is excited to be in an area close to water and family. Married with two adult children, he enjoys spending time with his family, reading biographies and nonfiction historical books, listening to music and exercise.
