About Flavia Esteve Kostov, MD

Dr. Kostov earned her medical degree from the Bahian School of Medicine and Public Health in Brazil in 2001. She completed an internal medicine residency at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh in 2005, followed by a hematology-oncology fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh in 2008. Dr. Kostov is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine with subspecialty certification in medical oncology and hematology.

Dr. Kostov’s grandparents, who are also hematologists, inspired her to work in the same medical field. She is experienced in general and malignant hematology and medical oncology, with particular expertise in breast cancer and lung cancer. She bases her practice on two philosophies: treat others the way you would want to be treated, and do no harm. Dr. Kostov feels that she needs her patients as much as they need her.

Originally from Brazil, Dr. Kostov enjoys Hampton Roads for its water, mild weather, sweet Southern folks and the ability to work for a strong health system. Her favorite activities include exercising, cooking and hanging out with her family. Dr. Kostov is married with two sons.
