About David Allan Scott, MD

 

 Dr. David Scott specializes in the non-operative care of bone, joint and spine conditions, with special interest in golf and running medicine. As a lifelong athlete, Dr. Scott has always found it rewarding to help his patients regain physical function. He believes the best results occur when patients are educated about their medical issues and become active participants in their own care. 

Dr. Scott earned his medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School in 2005. He completed his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Carolinas Rehabilitation Hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina, followed by a sports medicine fellowship at Steadman Hawkins Orthopedic Clinic of the Carolinas in Greenville, South Carolina. Dr. Scott is board-certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Dr. Scott enjoys Hampton Roads for its abundance of outdoor activities. Outside of work, his interests include golf, running and spending time with family.

The X-ray technician was very careful and courteous, the nurse was considerate and careful and the doctor was direct, explained things well and very thorough.

Lately, I've noticed a decrease in the ability of physicians to truly listen. When Dr. Scott asked me why I was there, the question took me aback. Certainly I wasn't there to waste his time, so I communicated the why. I felt that the conversation was hurried and when I asked about getting the MRI that him and the ER doctor recommended, I informed him that I had communicated this to my primary, who, instead of ordering the mri, she ordered X-rays. Bedside manners are paramount to me, and I think that doctors need to be reminded that while they see many patients, when I am in their care, their attention and listening skills should be activated so that the best health decisions can be made.

He was very interested in my condition, not just what I was there for but my overall condition. We discussed how I felt about medication, treatments, and he listened to me and discussed my options. I was pleasantly surprised and grateful.

I was actually relieved that he took my pain seriously, and didn't just say it's a pulled muscle. I think he is an excellent doctor and he actually took him time to ask me questions and answer all my questions. Highly recommend.

My doc was passive asf. Not much communication amongst dr/patient pushed off with arrogance trying to pose off as professional no empathy [...] nor willingness to care seemed' like basically did a LITE evaluation of client [...] we didn't get to discuss , [...] no actual conversation about what is the issue [...]!
