About David B. Maxwell, MD

Dr. Maxwell is a fellowship-trained, board-certified rheumatologist and sees patients with a wide variety of rheumatic conditions including Sjögren's, lupus, and gout as well as rheumatoid, psoriatic and osteoarthritis.  

Dr. Maxwell earned his medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School, where he stayed for residency training, serving as chief resident in internal medicine at DePaul Hospital. Dr. Maxwell completed a rheumatology and immunology fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in rheumatology and internal medicine and is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American College of Rheumatology.

Dr. Maxwell served as an instructor of clinical medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School. Dr. Maxwell has helped conduct numerous clinical trials. For the past 20 years he has presented monthly lectures at Riverside Family Practice’s Rheumatology Clinic.

In his free time, Dr. Maxwell remains active with the Boy Scouts of America’s Colonial Virginia Council.
