Telemedicine Services at Riverside Care Facilities

Riverside's telemedicine network provides services throughout the health system, including our hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, retirement communities, behavioral health facilities and doctors’ offices. Remote patient-provider interactions are accomplished with a range of technology and medical equipment such as mobile telemedicine carts; telemedicine suites; peripheral devices; desktop, laptop and tablet applications; and the MyChart patient portal.

Telemedicine makes it possible for Riverside to share clinical capabilities between one location and another, regardless of distance. As a result, nationally recognized physician specialists at Riverside Regional Medical Center (RRMC), the Peninsula's most comprehensive medical facility, can reach out to other areas of the state, even outside our health system, to extend access to care and help local physicians improve patient outcomes. Additionally, patients at all Riverside hospitals, including RRMC, and many of our other facilities benefit from telemedicine support that enhances care around the clock.

A growing array of telemedicine services

A cornerstone of Riverside’s telemedicine network is our telestroke program, anchored by Riverside Regional Medical Center (RRMC), the Peninsula’s only certified Comprehensive Stroke Center.

By incorporating telemedicine into stroke care, RRMC neurologists on 24-hour call can work remotely to support other local emergency department physicians regarding triage, treatment and transfer decisions at multiple locations. This means patients across the region are only seconds away from the area’s best stroke specialists — and with stroke response, every second matters.

Riverside's telemedicine capabilities are also important in supporting nursing and rehabilitation services at the system's convalescent centers and retirement communities. The unique ability of telemedicine to bring the doctor to the patient offers convenience, comfort and improved follow-up care for our residents.

In addition, telemedicine enhances care in a continually expanding list of clinical areas, including:

  • Dermatology
  • Ear, nose & throat

  • Psychiatry
