The choice of treatment depends on the type of lung cancer and the degree to which it has spread. People with lung cancer can have lung cancer surgery where the entire lung, a lobe of the lung or a small part of the lung are removed along with nearby lymph nodes. They may have radiation therapy (also called radiotherapy) which uses high-energy rays to kill cancer cells in the area being treated. Another lung cancer treatment option is chemotherapy which depends on drugs that kill cancer by entering the bloodstream. Targeted therapy uses specialized drugs to block the growth and spread of cancer cells.
Your doctor will plan your treatment based on the size of your tumor, where it is located, and how much it has spread.
