Specialized maternity care for you and baby during a high-risk pregnancy
Riverside Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialists offers a higher level of support and expertise if you are experiencing a high-risk pregnancy. Our fellowship trained perinatologists are here to co-manage and monitor you and baby’s unique needs with your OB provider throughout your journey.
Your OB provider will determine if you are experiencing a high risk pregnancy and refer you to Riverside Maternal Medicine.
- A pregnancy can be high-risk based on discoveries during routine prenatal care, factors outside your control or lifestyle choices, such as:
- Advanced maternal age (35 years of age or older)
- An unhealthy weight
- Fetal genetic screening anomalies
- Gestational diabetes
- Having chronic or pre-existing medical conditions, such as Type 1 Diabetes or a heart condition
- Hypertension (i.e., high blood pressure)
- Ultrasound showing a fetal anomaly
- Ultrasound showing a placenta or umbilical anomaly
Supportive services offered at Riverside Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialists:
- Diagnostic Testing- access to sonographers specially trained in maternal fetal medicine, fetal heart echo and looking for pregnancy anomalies
- Nutrition Education- guidance from certified diabetes educators for those with pre-existing diabetes or newly diagnosed gestational diabetes, also has support post-bariatric surgery patients with their nutritional needs during pregnancy
- Genetic Testing and Counseling- Professional counseling for abnormal genetic prenatal test results or those with a personal history of genetic disorders, such as Down syndrome
- Preconception Counseling- Expert clinical and risk assessments if you are facing infertility or have a personal medical history that may result in a high-risk pregnancy
