More Information

Heart disease is a leading cause of death, but you don’t have to be a statistic.

A key part of heart disease is atherosclerosis, which is the process of plaque and fatty deposits accumulating in the arteries. If it blocks blood flow to vital organs—especially the heart and brain—from receiving the oxygen they need, it can lead to a heart attack or stroke. This can result in a heart attack or stroke. The symptoms of heart attack and stroke can be more subtle than seen on tv or in movies, so it is important to recognize them and get immediate help by calling 911. Learn more about the symptoms of heart attack and stroke here.

Just as important as recognizing heart and stroke is understanding how to reduce your own risk of these complications. Genetics, diet, exercise habits, smoking, and conditions like diabetes all play a role in the buildup of plaque. Learn how to assess your heart disease risk and take action to protect yourself from these dangerous health conditions here.
