About John Richard Lamm Jr., MD
Dr. Lamm is a fellowship-trained neurosurgeon who specializes in brain and spine surgery, including functional neurosurgery. Dr. Lamm possesses expertise in the surgical treatment of brain, spine and peripheral nerve disease. In addition to general neurosurgery, he has specialized training in brain and spine trauma, peripheral nerve surgery and Gamma Knife radiosurgery.
Fascinated by the quickly advancing field of neuroscience, Dr. Lamm enjoys the opportunity to apply newfound discoveries to real-life situations and change people’s lives for the better. He approaches his medical practice with the golden rule, caring for patients the way he would want his physician to care for him. Dr. Lamm believes that this starts with tailoring individualized care to every patient he has the privilege to treat.
Dr. Lamm earned his medical degree in 2013 from the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. He completed a neurosurgery residency and a fellowship in functional neurosurgery at the University of Kentucky in 2018.
Originally from Greenville, North Carolina, Dr. Lamm enjoys Hampton Roads for the surrounding water, great seafood and close proximity to his extended family. Outside of work, he can be found sailing, woodworking or gardening. Dr. Lamm and his wife have three children.
