About Joel Verano Mabalot, MD

After earning his medical degree from Far Eastern University in the Philippines, Dr. Mabalot completed an internal medicine residency and endocrinology fellowship training at Nassau University Medical Center, a clinical campus of the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine with subspecialty certification in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism. Dr. Mabalot is also a Fellow of the American College of Endocrinology.

Dr. Mabalot has long been interested in the endocrine system and the very common diseases associated with it. He has a great deal of expertise in caring for patients with a wide spectrum of endocrine-related disorders, such as a diabetes and thyroid diseases.

Originally from the Philippines, Dr. Mabalot is married with four children. His favorite hobbies include singing and playing basketball.

Because I am a new patient I didn't feel like much explanation was given to me about how to manage my condition, keep it from getting worse, lifestyle changes or dietary changes I needed to make, how frequently I should return or or what to look out for in the future. I felt like everyone treated me like a returning patient who already understood her condition and been going through it for years so explanations were not needed.

Dr. Mabalot Immediately set the tone and pace of the visit. He stood during the visit. He talks extremely fast. [...] I had to put my hand up a couple of times to interject/speak. He spent all of 7 minutes in the room. I let him know about a bad experience I had with a [...] endocrinologist. He explained he had heard that before and apologized for my experience yet he exhibited a lot of the undesirable qualities of that doctor. He was friendly but the fast pace of the visit made it feel very unpersonable. [...] I plan to come to my follow-up appointment and that will determine whether or not I continue to see Dr. Mabalot.
