About George Joy Kannarkat, MD

 

Dr. Kannarkat earned his medical degree from Rutgers-New Jersey Medical School in 2003. He subsequently completed his internal medicine residency and a hematology/medical oncology fellowship, both at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. He joined Riverside’s Peninsula Cancer Institute in 2009. Dr. Kannarkat is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine, medical oncology and hematology.

Within the continuously evolving and improving field of cancer care, Dr. Kannarkat finds it exciting to be able to help his patients by utilizing new treatments such as immunotherapy and targeted oral drugs. His areas of expertise include colorectal, breast, prostate and lung cancer, along with lymphoma, multiple myeloma and chronic leukemias.

A Virginia Beach native, Dr. Kannarkat enjoys tennis, cycling, hiking and boating. He and his wife, Dr. Melisha Bissram, a nephrologist at Riverside, have two children.
