Emergency Medicine Residency Program

Purpose

The Advanced Emergency Medicine Ultrasound (AEMUS) Fellowship at Riverside Regional Medical Center is a 1-year multi-specialty program that trains leaders in the field of point-of-care ultrasound through establishing technical expertise, developing and improving teaching abilities, and providing research opportunities. Graduates of this fellowship stand prepared to sit for the AEMUS Focused Practice Designation Board Exam via the American Board of Emergency Medicine and/or obtain a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer designation. Graduates are well positioned to go on to academic or expert positions, such as Emergency Ultrasound Director or Fellowship Director.

Responsibilities

  • Attending shifts at Riverside Regional Medical Center (approximately 8 shifts/month)
  • 20 hours of ultrasound (US) education shifts monthly
  • Minimum 1000 US exams
  • Weekly US journal club and video review/quality improvement
  • Ensure 100% quality assurance of residency generated ultrasounds
  • 1-2 research projects - publication & presentation expected
  • Assistance with resident & student US rotations
  • 4-5 Residency Conference lectures/small group sessions
  • Outside US teaching with faculty group

Fellow Education:

  • ED scanning shifts with core US faculty
  • Echocardiography technologist
  • Rosh Review Advanced Emergency Ultrasound
  • Core Ultrasound QBank
  • Monthly Research in Progress meetings and research methods support
  • Education in establishment of a fellowship, machine maintenance and billing
  • Funding for ultrasound management courses and advanced topics

Duration:

  • 1 year

Eligibility:

  • ABEM certified to sit for FPD
  • Other specialties, BE/BC to sit for RDMS

Compensation:

  • $216,440/year plus benefits
  • Travel assistance for research presentation
  • Other financial opportunities (e.g. moonlighting, teaching US courses)
  • $3500 Business Expenses/CME
