Special interest areas unique to Riverside Health and members of the faculty will be included in the curriculum such as:

Ample elective or selective time will be included in the schedule for individuals to explore these areas.

The residency will employ a newly constructed state-of-the-art simulation center to enhance critical care management, procedural competencies and patient safety.
Progression of responsibility for each year group will be accomplished with competency-based, PGY-specific goals and objectives with effectiveness reflected in the Milestones.
Progression to the next level of responsibility will be based upon:

- Performance on weekly quizzes and standardized tests; the ABEM in-service examination
- Passing a PGY-specific oral advancement board interview
All advancements for increased autonomy and responsibility will be approved by the Program Director after review by the Clinical Competency Committee.
Residents will be prepared to pass the ABEM certification exams (both oral and written) through:
- A dedicated comprehensive curriculum
- Practice written exam questions
- Infusion of board-style questions into weekly didactics
- Quarterly simulated practice oral board exams
