Dr Johnson Joins Riverside OBGYN Specialists

Riverside is pleased to announce that Fayemi Johnson, MD, MRCOG, has joined the team at Riverside OB/GYN Specialists inside the Riverside Medical Group building on the Riverside campus in Onancock.

Johnson has more than 30 years of medical experience from around the world. Born in Sierra Leone, he received his medical degree from the University of Liberia and specialized in obstetrics and gynecology in Liberia and Sierra Leone before moving to the United Kingdom. Dr. Johnson went on to become a member of the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, considered the gold standard of certification in the United Kingdom.

On moving to the Maryland/Washington DC area in 2004, Johnson continued to focus on gynecological surgery at Doctors Community Hospital, Howard University Hospital and Providence Hospital.

Now with Riverside, Johnson’s focus is on women’s health, and relationships with patients become even more important in a smaller community.

“I believe that everyone deserves excellent care, regardless of who they are or their ability to pay,” Johnson said. “I also believe in taking the time to listen to patients’ concerns in order to provide compassionate counseling.”

In addition to providing general gynecologic care for every stage of a woman’s life, Johnson’s surgical specializations include biopsies and laparoscopic (minimally invasive) procedures for uterine fibroid removal, ectopic pregnancy treatment, and hysterectomies.

Johnson also provides comprehensive obstetric care, including the B-Lynch procedure to treat postpartum hemorrhage. Johnson studied the procedure under Dr. Christopher B-Lynch, who developed the method.

“I chose to go into the field of medicine when a family member died of complications from cancer. With every patient that I treat, I’m thinking about my own family.”

And that fits with the mission of Riverside “to care for others as we would those we love.”

When not treating patients, Johnson enjoys the peaceful nature of the Eastern Shore as well as working on home improvement projects and cooking. He has a wife and two children.
