Riverside Health, in partnership with 100 Black Men Virginia Peninsula Chapter and the Hampton Roads Prostate Health Forum, will host the “His and Her Health Matters,” on Saturday October 26, 2024, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Riverside Charlie W. and Golden Bethune Hill Community Health Clinic in Newport News. This event is free and open to the public.

The community-driven initiative is designed to promote cancers awareness, early detection, and overall wellness for men and women by providing essential health screenings and educational resources. It emphasizes critical health concerns, including prostate cancer screening and BMI index assessments. Attendees will also have access to information on the importance of cancer screenings, including breast, lung, and colorectal cancer.

“We are committed to reducing health disparities in our community by providing equitable access to life-saving screening and resources,” says Charlie Hill, President of the Hampton Roads Prostate Forum. “The His and Her Health Matters is an opportunity for us to connect with, educate and empower the community and make a real difference in the fight against cancer in our community.”

Certain cancers and health conditions, such as high blood pressure, disproportionately impact minority communities and early detection is the key to successful treatment. This event aims to close this gap by offering education to the wider community on essential cancer screenings and preventative health measures.

“We are grateful for the support of our partners, 100 Black Men Virginia Peninsula Chapter and the Hampton Roads Prostate Health Forum, and the opportunity to offer this   free screening and educational event to our community,” says Debbie Campbell, Community Engagement Director. “By providing free screenings and education, we’re helping individuals take control of their health and encouraging early detection, which can save lives.”

This health event is part of Riverside Health’s ongoing commitment to improving the health and wellness of the communities it serves by offering accessible, high-quality care and education. To learn more about this event, please visit riversideonline.com/hisandherhealthmatters
