Riverside Health System is announcing the selection of Michael J. Dacey, MD to become the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and President of Riverside Health System effective January 1, 2023. Dr. Dacey will be replacing long time Riverside CEO Bill Downey, who will transition into the role of Executive Vice Chairman and Special Advisor for Riverside until his retirement in 2024.
In making this announcement, RHS Board of Directors Chairman Gabe Morgan, explained that the Health System Board used a well planned and executed succession planning process in selecting Dr. Dacey. “Mike has been an incredible asset to Riverside before and during the pandemic in his role as Chief Operating Officer. He and Bill have worked so well together during the past five years, and we know he will take Riverside to even greater success,” said Morgan. “We want to thank Bill for his almost 40 years of service to Riverside. Bill has worked tirelessly to enhance our team members and community engagement. During his 12-year tenure as President and CEO, Riverside Health System has seen significant growth through expansion, and the use of digital technologies benefitting team members, patients, residents, and our communities.”
Dr. Dacey brings a wealth of knowledge to his new role. Prior to joining Riverside, Dacey held key positions at Care New England (including Critical Care Service Line Chief, Chief Medical Officer, and Hospital President). Since joining Riverside in 2018, Dr. Dacey has served as Chief Clinical Operations Officer and President/Chief Operating Officer.

He leaves the entire health system extremely well-positioned for continued growth and excellence in patient and resident care. Dr. Dacey is a graduate of Providence College and George Washington University School of Medicine. He completed an internal medicine residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, a critical medicine fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and has a master's degree in health care management from the Harvard School of Public Health.
