York County School Division (YCSD) announced a partnership with Riverside Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Specialists to provide certified athletic trainers (ATC’s) for sports medicine coverage at the county’s four middle schools and four high schools. The ATC’s will provide the first line of medical care for student athletes during practice and competition. The partnership will begin July 1, 2023, and will run through the 2027-2028 school year.
“For athletes, and their parents, prevention and comprehensive care when a sports injury occurs is vital,” says John LaRue, sports physical therapy & performance director. “Our Riverside Orthopedics and Sports Medicine team is dedicated to bringing services directly to the sideline, to provide high quality, compassionate orthopedic care to our local student athletes to keep them in the game.”
Riverside Sports Medicine Specialists will partner with the school division’s athletic care network, including ATCs, to evaluate injuries, provide on-site medical coverage during practices and home events, provide first aid and similar emergency assistance when necessary.
“Giving our local athletes a safe setting to play the game they love is so important to us,” says Art Karapetyan, Practice Director for Riverside Orthopedics, Sports Medicine and Physiatry Specialists. “If they need treatment for an injury, we are dedicated to getting them back in the game as quickly as possible because we understand how much that means to them.”
Riverside Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Specialists also provide ATC coverage for Newport News Public Schools, Isle of Wight County Public Schools, Williamsburg-James City County Schools, Christopher Newport University and Lionsbridge FC, a local semi-professional soccer team.
