Newport News, Va. – Riverside Health is pleased to announce that Executive Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer Nancy Littlefield was honored by Inside Business with a 2019 Women in Business Achievement Award. She was profiled in a special issue of the publication and presented with the prestigious award on Dec. 10, 2019.
The Women in Business Achievement Awards are designed to celebrate women who have been successful in their business and careers, have made a significant impact on the business community and local economy and have served as mentors and examples to others.
Motivated by a love of people and a desire to serve, Littlefield’s career has spanned over 30 years working in acute care as well as serving in executive leadership within hospice and palliative care organizations.
A fourth-generation nurse, she currently oversees and coordinates the nursing clinical practice across all of Riverside Health and has leadership responsibility for Riverside’s Lifelong Health Division and Human Resources, which employs more than 10,000 people. She also has a passion for giving back to the community, serving on the boards of the United Way, American Heart Association and the Thomas Nelson Community College Foundation.
Littlefield earned a doctorate in nursing practice from Old Dominion University, a master’s in health care administration from Virginia Commonwealth University and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from George Mason University.
“I was greatly influenced by my Dad who would often tell me ‘If someone else can do it, you need to ask yourself what limits you from doing the same?’” Littlefield told Inside Business. “I am grateful for both my Mom and Dad who raised me to look people in the eye, keep my handshake strong and always treat others with respect.”
