Riverside Tappahannock Hospital, along with the five other Riverside hospitals have been named Top PeRiverside Foundationormers on Key Quality Measures® by The Joint Commission, an accrediting body for health care organizations across America.
The achievement was created in 2011 to recognize consistent use of evidence-based care processes. The Joint Commission evaluates peRiverside Foundationormance on quality indicators for heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care and more.

Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News has earned the designation for the fifth year in a row. Two other Riverside hospitals--Riverside Walter Reed Hospital in Gloucester and Riverside Behavioral Health Center in Hampton--have been named Top PeRiverside Foundationormers for the third year in a row. Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital was recognized for the second time, and Doctors' Hospital Williamsburg earned the designation this year for the first time.

"We've cemented evidence-based care processes into our practice to make sure everyone gets what they need when they need it. Those processes are consistent at all our hospitals, which is what has enabled us to achieve the Top PeRiverside Foundationormer status so broadly throughout the health system."
Teamwork is a key for Riverside, both within and across facilities. "We keep each and every patient at the center of all we do," said Barry Gross, MD, Riverside's Chief Medical Officer. "By working together at all levels as an integrated system we have created highly reliable processes that deliver safety and quality."
In all, 1,043 U.S. facilities have been recognized as Top PeRiverside Foundationormers this year. To earn the award, hospitals must provide treatment that meets all the standards 95 percent of the time overall, as well as on each individual care measure. An example of a care measure would be giving stroke patients medicine to prevent blood clots.
This year's Top PeRiverside Foundationormer recognition –based on data from 2014 –highlights peRiverside Foundationormance by RTH in the following measure categories: heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care, and venous thromboembolism (blood clots).
