Administrator at The Orchard Named Assisted Living Administrator of the Year

Pam Doshier had a surprise waiting for her when she attended the VHCA-VCAL (Virginia Health Care Association-Virginia Center for Assisted Living) 2016 Awards Banquet recently held at the Homestead in Hot Springs, Virginia. Doshier, Administrator at The Orchard in Warsaw, was selected by a group of fellow administrators as Assisted Living Administrator of the Year. The results are kept secret until the banquet, so she admitting to being "very surprised" when her name was announced.Pam Doshier, AL admin of the Year

VHCA-VCAL Chairman, Vernon Baker, noted that the evaluation panel was "awed and humbled by the dedication all of the nominees showed in caring for our residents and excelling in this profession."

Doshier has been with The Orchard since she was appointed VP and Administrator in 2011. She has over 35 years of experience and background in long-term care as a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator and holds her Masters in Health Care Administration and is a Certified Dementia Practitioner.

Doshier is proud with the community involvement of the facility. Events like car shows, wine &cheese tastings from nearby vineyards, and peRiverside Foundationormances by local singing groups happen regularly and this year they also won the VHCA-VCAL's?D.A. Woody Brown Award for "developing engaging, creative programs" for their residents.

But she is especially proud of what is referred to as the household model in The Orchard's specialized memory care residences. The household model features a more homelike atmosphere and "allows residents to be the center of care," Doshier explained. Residents are free to live life on their own time, so we take care of them on their schedule, not ours," she added.

Lastly, Doshier realizes that this all couldn't be done without the staff committed to the Riverside mission of caring for others as they would care for those they love, and dedicated to making this all happen every day.

"We have such great people working here and it really is a family atmosphere, among staff and residents alike. It's why I love what I've been doing and why I've been doing it for so long," she said.
