Riverside Wellness  Fitness Center Launches Fall Building Balance Class

Eight-week class aims to help older adults throughout Hampton Roads remain forever fit.

NEWPORT NEWS September 21, 2017 –The reality adults face as they age are declines in balance and stability, leading to an increased risk of falls among those 65 and older and potential moderate or even severe injury.

In fact, more than one third of older adults fall each year, incurring loss of function and additional medical costs.

But it doesn't have to be this way. Prevention can help, and now so can Riverside Health System.

Riverside's Wellness &Fitness Center in Newport News is pleased to present its newest healthy aging program –Building Balance –to help older adults prevent falls today and well into the future.

Taught by an exercise specialist and approved by Riverside Health System physicians and therapists, Building Balances is an eight-week program designed to progressively improve muscular stability and confidence through activities of daily living. Class sequences move from the floor to standing.

Limited space is available for this course, which kicks off in mid-October.

Classes meet once a week for eight weeks and participants can choose the day they participate –Tuesdays starting October 10 at 9 a.m. or Thursdays starting October 12 at 5 p.m.

Classes will be held at the Riverside Wellness & Fitness Center at 12650 Jefferson Avenue in Newport News.
