Board-certified radiation oncologist Jefferson Moulds, M.D. recently joined theRiverside Shore Cancer Center where he supervises the facility’s state-of-the-art radiation therapy offerings.

A native of Virginia Beach and raised in the Tidewater area, Moulds comes to Riverside Shore from Reston Hospital Center where he served in the Department of Radiation Oncology. He previously worked as Clinical Director of the Joseph E. Coad Radiation Treatment Center at Southern Maryland Hospital.

Moulds is a graduate of the Medical College of Virginia School of Medicine and completed his residency at Georgetown University School of Medicine. There he also held several academic positions in the Department of Radiation Medicine and served as head of the Gynecologic Radiation Medicine Service for Georgetown University Hospital, developing key specialties and peRiverside Foundationorming advanced treatment techniques.

“I always have had a particular interest and involvement in breast cancer and prostate cancer,” said Moulds.  “During much of my time at Georgetown University Hospital, I was the principal breast cancer radiation oncologist, and I have been treating patients with Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT) for over 18 years.”

Although he spent the last 22 years living in Washington D.C., Moulds loves the Eastern Shore and welcomed the opportunity for his family to be able to call the close-knit community home.

“I spent a good deal of time on the Eastern Shore as a child, and I have always loved the natural beauty of the area,” Moulds explained. “After purchasing what was originally intended to be our vacation house on the Shore, I was really impressed by the genuine kindness of the people, so much so that I decided to make it my home.”

At the Riverside Shore Cancer Center, Moulds and team are able to treat patients with the very latest in radiotherapy technology and techniques – comparable to what is available in even the largest metropolitan area hospitals.  For patients, this means realizing successful outcomes more quickly and with fewer side effects than ever before.

“Radiotherapy for breast cancer frequently is being completed in less than four weeks, rather than the six or seven weeks it used to take. I believe that many other cancers will soon be treated far more quickly and with fewer side effects than in the past.”

Moulds embodies the Riverside Care Difference.

“I aim to treat all of my patients as I would want a loved one to be treated,” he said. “I believe that each patient is unique and deserves my full attention. I never forget that each patient just wants to get back to their life as it was before their diagnosis, and it’s up to me to do what I can to make that happen.”

Moulds is board certified in Radiation Oncology by the American Board of Radiology. In addition to the many clinical and academic positions held over the years, he has also been a member of numerous professional societies, presented at various events, and authored several publications related to oncology.

When not seeing patients, Moulds enjoys spending time with his family, including a daughter who keeps him busy with her school and other activities.  He also enjoys now having plenty of opportunity for gardening and is looking forward to boating on the Shore’s waterways.
