The mission of VCU Riverside Family Medicine Residency is to provide quality, family-centered care across the lifespan with an emphasis on risk factor identification, acute and chronic disease management, disease prevention, health maintenance, and patient education while training the best Family Physicians – not only for the present, but for the future.

Program Aims

  1. Train Resident physicians broadly and excellently inpatient and outpatient medicine in the full breadth of Family Medicine so they can enter any post-graduate work venue and be successful.
  2. Recruit and train medical students to become excellent family physicians who will practice in Virginia.
  3. Strive to teach continuous quality improvement and disease prevention
  4. Create a culture that promotes community outreach and engagement that extends beyond training.

  • 13 family medicine residents per year

  • 12 family medicine faculty members with four holding CAQs in OB, Sports Medicine, Neuromuscular Medicine, and Hospice and Palliative Medicine

  • Full-time Pediatrician on faculty
