Newport News, Va. – On May 5, 2018, participants in the Riverside 5K by the Bay will run, walk and wheel in memory of Brandon D. Rogers, M.D., helping raise funds for the Dr. Brandon D. Rogers Simulation Lab at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News.
In June 2017, Rogers was tragically killed in a car accident. In addition to being a dedicated physician in Riverside’s Family Practice Residency Program, Rogers was also a talented musician who performed with the R&B group Boyz II Men and as a contestant on America’s Got Talent.
Riverside Health System, in partnership with the Rogers family, plans to raise $350,000 to honor his memory through the Dr. Brandon D. Rogers Simulation Lab at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News.
The 5K by the Bay features a scenic out and back course along Chesapeake Avenue, highlighting stunning views of the Chesapeake Bay. Please note that the course has changed for 2018 due to road construction.

About Simulations Labs
Simulation labs offer real life situations – everything from bedside manner and diagnosis under pressure to actual treatment – in a safe regulated environment. The concept is similar to training airline pilots who take part in simulated flight scenarios, both standard and unusual to test knowledge and skills.
About 5K by the Bay
Riverside Rehabilitation Hospital hosts the 5K by the Bay each year for runners, walkers and wheelers. The event starts at 8:30 a.m. at the hospital located at 245 Chesapeake Avenue, and finishes right on the Chesapeake Bay.
