Today, Riverside Health is proud to announce that all four acute care hospitals have been nationally recognized for top marks in the Spring 2024 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade program. Riverside Regional Medical Center (RRMC), Riverside Doctors’ Hospital Williamsburg (RDHW), Riverside Walter Reed Hospital (RWRH) and Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital (RSMH) have all earned an “A” safety grade from The Leapfrog Group, an independent, nationwide organization dedicated to quality and safety measures in health care.
To analyze patient safety in hospitals across the country, The Leapfrog Group assigns a Safety Grade. The sliding grade scale uses 31 national performance measures from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the Leapfrog Hospital Survey and information from other supplemental data resources to assign a letter grade of “A”, “B”, “C”, “D” or “F”. This grading system is the only rating program focused on hospitals’ prevention of medical errors and other harm to patients in their care.
“Our acute care facilities have been consistently high ranked for the past five years and this award recognizes our unwavering commitment to excellence in health care safety standards,” says Mike Dacey, M.D., President & CEO. “While seeking health care, trusting that a facility or provider will keep you safe is of the utmost importance. Whether a patient is coming in for a routine procedure or emergency treatment, our teams continue to provide evidence-based care practices and processes to care for them and keep them safe during their stay with us."
As part of its ongoing improvement, Riverside facilities continue to focus on the implementation of evidence-based best practices published in medical literature and recommended by nationally recognized organizations, such as the National Quality Forum, the Institute for Healthcare Improvement and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. Preventable complications have been significantly reduced, and patient experience surveys have shown substantial improvement.
“Patient safety is our top priority at Riverside, and I am immensely proud of each facilities’ pursuit of excellence as reflected in our latest ratings from The Leapfrog Group,” says Terry Sievers, Senior Vice President of Quality at Riverside Health. “This recognition not only validates our ongoing efforts to be intentional, data informed and evidence-base, but also serves as a testament to how our dedication translates directly into improved outcomes and an enhanced experience for our patients.”
