Today, Riverside Health announced the intent to launch two educational programs, Riverside Scholars and Nurse Extern Advancement Training (NEAT), to offer current health care students’ hands on training, educational assistance and job prospects upon graduation.
“With the number of educational opportunities in Hampton Roads, we wanted to help some of those soon-to-be health care graduates get a head start,” says Robin Nelhuebel, Executive Director of Riverside College of Health Careers. “Both programs offer an avenue to earn educational grants, an opportunity to work while in school and provide a guaranteed position following graduation.”
The Riverside Scholars Program is a merit-based program designed for nursing and allied health students currently attending the Riverside College of Health Careers (RCHC). Scholars’ participants are selected based on current grade point average and will receive a $3,000 institutional grant per semester for educational expenses.
The NEAT program will offer a six-week paid summer externship to 60 registered nursing students during the summer prior to or during their senior year. Upon completion of the NEAT program, students will be eligible to apply for a $3,000 educational grant paid directly to their institution and invited to continue working as-needed (PRN) through their final year of schooling. \
Program alumni will also be provided employment opportunities upon graduation from their pre-licensure professional nursing program. Students from the Riverside College of Health Careers, community colleges, traditional four-year universities and proprietary schools are encouraged to apply.
“In an everchanging health care landscape, we recognized the opportunity to adjust to the needs of our students, team members, residents and patients,” says Frankye Myers, System Chief Nursing Officer. “We are excited to invest in these programs to help build the next generation of health care professionals."
