Riverside Health Earns “A” in Patient Safety Performance from The Leapfrog Group

November 19, 2024
Leapfrog Fall 2024

Today, Riverside Health is proud to announce that three of its acute care hospitals have been nationally recognized for top marks in the Fall 2024 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade program.  Riverside Regional Medical Center (RRMC), Riverside Doctors’ Hospital Williamsburg (RDHW) and Riverside Walter Reed Hospital (RWRH) have each earned an “A” safety grade from The Leapfrog Group, an independent, nationwide organization dedicated to quality and safety measures in health care.

To analyze patient safety in hospitals across the country, The Leapfrog Group assigns a Safety Grade. The sliding grade scale uses 31 national performance measures from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the Leapfrog Hospital Survey and information from other supplemental data resources to assign a letter grade of “A”, “B”, “C”, “D” or “F”. This grading system is the only rating program focused on hospitals’ prevention of medical errors and other harm to patients in their care.

“Safety is not just a benchmark; it is the foundation of quality care at Riverside Health. These Leapfrog scores reflect the dedication of our clinical teams who uphold the highest safety standards in patient care,” says Mike Dacey, M.D., President & CEO of Riverside Health. “These evidence-based care practices and procedures ensure each patient receives exceptional treatment and peace of mind that their safety is our top priority.”

As part of its ongoing improvement, Riverside facilities continue to focus on the implementation of evidence-based best practices published in medical literature and recommended by nationally recognized organizations, such as the National Quality Forum, the Institute for Healthcare Improvement and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. Preventable complications have been significantly reduced, and patient experience surveys have shown substantial improvement.

“Maintaining the highest safety standards is at the core of our commitment to our patients and the communities we serve, and I am proud to see our work recognized by The Leapfrog Group with Riverside Regional Medical Center, Riverside Doctors’ Hospital Williamsburg and Riverside Walter Reed Hospital earning an ‘A’. We continue to be proud of the work at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital in earning a Safety Grade of ‘B’,” says Terry Sievers, Senior Vice President of Quality at Riverside Health. “All of our clinical teams remain steadfast in their pursuit of excellence, ensuring that safety and quality are the forefront of all we do.”
