Riverside Health System announced that its Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital (RSMH) facility has been recognized as one of the top 100 rural and community hospitals in the United States.? The prestigious list recognizes hospitals that better manage risk, achieve higher quality, secure better outcomes, increase patient satisfaction and operate at a lower cost than their peers.
RSMH was one of only two Virginia hospitals named to the top 100 list for 2017.

"This national recognition underscores the results of their hard work and the positive impact that Riverside Health System is making in a growing number of our Virginia communities."
The 2017 Top 100 Rural and Community Hospitals list highlights hospitals that were studied as part of the 2017 Rural Relevance Study: Vulnerability to Value by The Chartis Group.? The study examines the unique challenges faced by rural hospitals.? The National Rural Health Association's Rural Health Policy Institute and iVantage Health Analytics helped compile the list.
"Measuring peRiverside Foundationormance is central to improving the quality of health care and the peRiverside Foundationormance of these top hospitals shows that, while greatly challenged, health leaders in rural areas can excel in the transition from volume to value," commented Michael Topchik, national leader of The Chartis Center for Rural Health.? "In fact, our research shows that these leaders share key attributes that dovetail with the CMS-driven shift to value, showing that rural hospitals can offer the best quality care at the lowest cost."
Riverside operates five acute care hospitals in southeastern Virginia including three other rural hospitals in Gloucester, Williamsburg and Tappahannock.? Riverside Tappahannock Hospital made the top 100 rural and community hospitals list in 2016.
RSMH and other rural Riverside facilities are consistently recognized for their commitment to quality and excellence.? Recently, RSMH earned accreditation by DNV GL - Healthcare for quality and patient safety, while Riverside Shore Cancer Center was granted accreditation with commendation for excellence by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons.? Earlier, Riverside Shore Rehabilitation Center earned the 2016 Bronze Commitment to Quality Award from a national long-term care organization.
RSMH also recently opened state-of-the-art facilities that will further extend its ability to deliver world class care in a local community setting.
Completed on February 25, a new $85million Riverside Shore Health Services campus includes RSMH, Riverside Shore Cancer Center and the offices for the specialty providers of Riverside Medical Group as well as outpatient physical therapy.
