Riverside Health is proud to announce Riverside Regional Medical Center (RRMC) has been re-accredited as a Chest Pain Center Primary PCI and Riverside Walter Reed Hospital has been newly designated a Chest Pain Center by the American College of Cardiology (ACC). Both accreditations will run through 2027.

“These accreditations are a testament to our cardiac team members, who work hard each and every day to care for our community,” says Jatifha Harris, MSN-Ed., ACNPC-AG, CCRN, SCRN, Director of Quality for Riverside Cardiovascular and Neurosciences. “This honor recognizes the high quality and high standard of care our teams provide and reaffirms our commitment to excellence in cardiovascular care.”

The ACC criteria for Chest Pain Center accreditation levels refer to the treatment capabilities offered at each facility. Hospitals who maintain 24/7 coverage with an interventional cardiologist and cardiac catheterization lab team are eligible for the Chest Pain Center Primary PCI designation. Hospitals who do not have 24/7 treatment capabilities on-site but maintain a robust detailed transfer protocol are eligible for the Chest Pain Center designation.

“Accreditations, such as these, have a profound impact on patient care. They signify that we have met rigorous standards for treatment of chest pain and acute coronary syndrome and ensures that patients receive the most effective treatment available,” says Edward Chu, M.D., cardiologist with Riverside Cardiology Specialists. “These evidence-based protocols lead to quicker diagnosis, faster intervention times and ultimately, better outcomes and recovery rates for our patients.”
