Calling all health care students interested in serving people in rural or underserved areas.
Enrollment is open until May 20 for a Rural Summer Immersion Program hosted by Riverside Health. The 10-day program runs over the first two weeks of June and will be located at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital in Gloucester.
The Rural Summer Immersion Program is designed to give students a unique opportunity to learn about advanced telehealth capabilities, working with community-based organizations, navigating interdisciplinary teams, addressing opioid misuse in rural communities, and life in small town and rural Virginia.
The program is hosted in partnership with the Rappahannock Region of the Virginia Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) Program and the Bay Rivers Telehealth Alliance, a non-profit organization working to connect healthcare providers, patients, educators, and consumers and their families to a comprehensive continuum of care using telehealth technology.
AHEC Scholars and any student enrolled in a health professions degree or certificate program are eligible to apply, and to experience health care and life on Virginia's Middle Peninsula.
Enrollment in the Rural Summer Immersion Program is free and limited to 15 students. Each student will receive a $20 stipend each day of the program, which will take place June 3 - 14, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
