On February 25, 2017 Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital moved from Nassawadox Virginia to Onancock Virginia, a distance of 18 miles.
Eleven inpatients were transported from the Nassawadox facility to the Onancock facility.?Four of those patients were in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and the other seven were on the Medical/Surgical Unit.
The first patient transported was Samuel Bradford who left the Nassawadox ICU at 7:57am and became the first patient to be admitted at the Onancock hospital at 8:23am.?
The last inpatient to be discharged from the Nassawadox hospital was Robert Sniadach who was discharged to home at 11:30am.
The Nassawadox facility officially closed at 11:45am.
The first patient in the Emergency Department at the Onancock hospital arrived at 6:10am.
As of 4:45pm on February 25, 34 patients had been received in the Onancock Emergency Department, including one trauma patient.
As of 4:45pm, no laboring mothers had been admitted and no babies had been born.
All Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital team members played a role in the move day.?The local team was supported with approximately 100 Riverside team members from other regions, 30 of whom were from the nursing staffs of other Riverside facilities, as well as approximately 25 community volunteers and nursing students.
The move was made possible with the help of ambulances from AMR, Shore Transport Services and Riverside.?In addition, the staff of the Accomack County Department of Public Safety operated ambulances from Bloxom, Onancock and Parksley to help transport patients.
