Welcome to the Riverside Internal Medicine Residency Program!

Since 1935, physician education has been a major focus for Riverside Regional Medical Center. Centrally located in Newport News, Virginia and launched in 2024, the RRMC Internal Medicine Residency strives to fully encompass the Riverside Care Difference, our commitment to safety, healing, kindness and respect.

Our mission is to train compassionate, skilled, and knowledgeable internists who will be leaders in clinical care, education, and research. We are committed to fostering a culture of lifelong learning and professional development.

Faculty and Mentorship
Our faculty are dedicated to resident education and provide personalized mentorship. Each resident is paired with a faculty advisor to guide them through their residency journey, offering career advice and support for professional development.

Program Highlights

  • Accreditation: Our program received preliminary accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
  • Duration: The residency program spans three years, with progressive responsibility in patient care.
  • Rotations: Residents rotate through various specialties including Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Hematology/Oncology, Infectious Diseases, Nephrology, Pulmonology, and Rheumatology.
  • Didactic Learning: Regular didactic sessions, including Grand Rounds, Journal Club, Case Conferences and Morbidity and Mortality Conferences.
  • Research Opportunities: Access to a wide range of research projects and mentorship from experienced faculty to foster academic growth and innovation.
  • Simulation Training: State-of-the-art simulation labs for procedural skills and emergency scenarios to ensure hands-on experience in a controlled environment.
  • Community Engagement: Opportunities to engage with the community through health fairs, free clinics, and public health initiatives.
