Overview
Our program uses a 6+2 Block Schedule, which has been shown to improve continuity of care as well as resident and patient satisfaction. Inpatient rotations such as Inpatient Wards and Medical ICU are done in four-week blocks while continuity clinic and electives are done in one- to two-week blocks. You will have multiple opportunities to rotate through different electives. We will tailor your elective experiences based on your career aspirations or areas of interest.

- Simulation Laboratory Elective Rotation
- Administrative Medicine Elective Rotation
- Rural Medicine Elective Rotation
- Hospitalist Rotation at various Riverside sites
- Financial planning
- Protected didactic time
- Mentor, Advisor, Coach (MAC) program
- Hospice and Palliative Rotation with exposure to multiple patient care settings
Our didactics include:
- Subspecialty lectures weekly
- Case conferences weekly
- Combined lectures with other residency programs weekly on globally relevant topics
- Monthly Morbidity and Mortality conference
- Monthly Journal Club
- Monthly half day in the Simulation Lab
- Dedicated half day a week in Continuity Clinic for outpatient-focused didactic sessions
- Wellness Days that are planned by the residents
- POCUS training
- Quarterly Diversity, Equity and Inclusion didactics
- Visual Thinking Strategy, an arts-based approach to improving description, analysis and interpretation of images and information
Additional opportunities include:
- DeckerMed and Yale Outpatient Curriculum, both asynchronous platforms with readings and board style questions.
- Research opportunities (Spencer, are we highlighting anywhere the research dept and what it includes/can do across the residency programs?)
- Annual In-Training Exam used to assess medical knowledge and test taking abilities which is used to help develop individualized learning plans.
- Mentor, Advisor, Coach (MAC) program where each resident is assigned a MAC who can help them navigate residency, board preparation, fellowship and employment opportunities.
- Leadership opportunities throughout residency to include Wellness Champions and Resident Representative(s) for Graduate Medical Education Committee and liaison between leadership and residents.
- Generous Continuing Medical Education stipend to purchase other board preparation materials.
- Participation in various hospital-based committees.
- Opportunity for become Chief of Medical Residents.
