Know and manage your numbers for success
At Riverside, our goal is to provide you with the best medical care available for your diabetes. Your efforts - in what you eat, how closely you monitor your sugar, whether you smoke and how much exercise you get - are essential to the successful management of your diabetes, too.
That's why at Riverside, we are committed to providing you with the tools and skills you need for effective self-management. This knowledge builds confidence and encourages you to achieve and maintain good health, which can help prevent diabetes complications.
Diabetes education critical to improving health
Whether you are newly diagnosed or have been living with diabetes for years, staying educated about your condition is a key step to staying healthy. In addition to our physician specialists, Riverside’s Diabetes Services department is there to help you learn how to manage your diabetes instead of letting your diabetes manage you. Our team reviews your diabetes numbers and lifestyle goals with you and we offer appointments every three months for continued progress. We use video visits, telemedicine and in-person appointments so patients can conveniently stay on track with diabetes management.
Our team will make sure all patients understand the opportunities available at Riverside for diabetes education. In addition to providing diabetes management educational support, we offer a Diabetes Prevention Class that can help patients understand how to make significant progress in reducing their risk of diabetes, focusing on:
- Weight loss
- Promoting exercise
- Reducing blood sugars, blood pressure and cholesterol
- Improving food choices
- Understanding diabetes warning signs
Riverside follows the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) curriculum using evidence-based techniques. Participants in our Diabetes Prevention Class can manage their weight and lower their risks of diabetes by up to 58% through lifestyle changes.
