Your radiology oncologist uses a special therapy planning software to help develop your individualized treatment plan. This may take several days or even a week or more depending on the complexity.
Once the therapy plan is completed, you will return to the center to have verification films taken. The radiation oncologist will review these films to ensure that the equipment and treatments are adjusted accurately. Here's what to expect when you have the films taken:
- You may be asked to change into a gown or shorts.
- In the treatment room, you will lie on the table in the same position used for the CT simulation.
- The therapist will move you until your marks line up with the machine flight field and lasers.
- Sometimes a scan is performed in the treatment room for field verification as well.
