Tapphannock, Va. – Riverside Urgent Care in Tappahannock is pleased to welcome Morgan VanDerHorst-Albaugh, MD as medical director.
In addition to being board certified in family medicine, Dr. Albaugh gained experience in a wide variety of settings that helps in practicing family medicine.
"I like family medicine first and foremost because I like seeing and treating a variety of patients. I also like being able to treat both children and adults," said Dr. Albaugh.
Originally from Ohio, Dr. Albaugh received her medical degree from Northeast Ohio Medical University and completed her family medicine internship at Andrews AFB in Maryland. She then moved to Virginia, completing her family medicine residency with VCU/Shenandoah Valley Family Practice in Front Royal. She also spent a year practicing in Anchorage, Alaska prior to returning to Virginia.
It was the familiarity with life in a rural town that attracted her to the Northern Neck.
"I really enjoy the small town aspects of living here and I'm most comfortable practicing medicine in a rural area. It allows me to get to know patients better," she said.
Aside from treating patients, her research interests include topics that can help people in her day- to-day practice, like mind/body techniques to treat anxiety and depression, helping people to quit smoking, and skin cancer treatments.
Dr. Albaugh currently lives in area with her husband, Ben, and their two dogs. In addition to becoming familiar with the area's wines, she looks forward to the outdoor lifestyle that the area offers.
"I love the easy access to the water since my husband and I enjoy fishing. I also like the wide open spaces and many trails that are perfect for horseback riding," she added, "It's very therapeutic."

Friday, 10am - 8pm and Saturday – Sunday, 9am – 7pm. No appointment is necessary.
